PRESENT Residency Education Summit East Welcomes ABPM Presentation

ABPM provided information to Podiatric Residents and Podiatric Residency Directors in July at the PRESENT Residency Education Summit East in New Jersey.

Dr. Steven L. Goldman and Dr. Marc Benard, presented ABPM information to about 35 Residency Directors during the recent PRESENT Residency Education Summit East, at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe, NJ. Dr. David George, a past president of ABPM, was also in attendance. The presentation focused on ABPM’s policies, an overview of the new certification examination platform and information on the importance of ABPM Certification for Residents starting their careers.

One of the key points made by the speakers was concerning obtaining board certification shortly after completing residency.  Eligible candidates can obtain ABPM certification within a year of residency vs. up to seven years for surgical certification.  This in turn has a significant financial benefit for those achieving certification as soon as they can, including access to managed care panels, hospitals, etc.  Speakers also emphasized that the American Board of Podiatric Medicine is recognized by the Joint Committee on the Recognition of Specialty Boards of the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (JCRSB) under the authority of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) as the specialty board to conduct a certification process in podiatric orthopedics and podiatric medicine.

This was PRESENT’s 7th Residency Education Summit. 219 residents from 71 programs enjoyed two and half days of lectures, hands-on workshops and the always wild Residency Rumble competition.

I want to continue this outreach as this is becoming increasingly important for access privileges and insurance paneling.”
