Dr. Andrew Shapiro Participates in Make-A-Wish Foundation by Doing Polar Plunge in the Atlantic Ocean
Braving winter air temperatures, podiatrist Dr. Andrew Shapiro, from Lido Beach, NY, took the plunge on Super Bowl Sunday into the frigid Atlantic Ocean waves in Long Beach, NY. This was the 9th year in a row he participated in this event for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Cheered on by Long Beach residents, more than 5,000 people jumped into the Atlantic Ocean for the 19th annual Long Beach Polar Bear Club Dip. Organizers expect to raise well over a half a million dollars from this event.
The Super Bowl Sunday tradition started in 1998 with two friends who began collecting funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation to honor the memory of their friend’s 4-year-old son, who died of cancer. To date, they’ve raised more than $4 million to grant wishes for kids with life-threatening medical conditions.
Andrew Shapiro, DPM has been certified with the American Board of Podiatric Medicine since 1992.
