Board Examinations

In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the following changes have been made to the 2020 Board Examination cycle. Please read thoroughly before contacting ABPM Headquarters.

Qualification Exam (Part 1) Update:

The ABPM Qualification Exam on May 19, 2020 has been postponed. Instead, the Qualification Exam will be converted into a Qualification/Certification Hybrid Exam that will be administered on October 16, 2020. The hybrid exam will consist of 125 multiple choice questions (100 scored questions) and 9 clinical case scenarios (8 scored cases). Upon passing the hybrid exam, candidates will become Board Certified by the ABPM.

All candidates affected by this change have received an email from with further information. If you are registered for the Qualification Exam and have not received an email, please contact Angie.

Applications for the Hybrid Exam are available now through July 31, 2020.

Certification Exam (Part 2) Update:

The ABPM Certification Exam is being administered on Friday, October 16, 2020. Applications for this exam must be submitted by July 31, 2020.

Access Practice Questions for Qualification (Part 1) Examination

ABPM now has an app for iOS/Android devices which contains practice questions to help prepare for the Part 1 (Qualification) examination.  To download the app, please search for ABPM in Apple iTunes or Google Play.

A powerpoint presentation is available to all candidates sitting for the Certification (Part 2) examination. Opening this link will allow candidates to view and navigate through a sample case. It is highly recommended that all candidates view this information to familiarize themselves with the examination process. This will be the only training available prior to the actual examination.

Testing Centers

The qualification and certification examinations will be offered at Pearson VUE testing centers nationally. Applicants will receive instructions on how to book their appointments about 6-8 weeks before the exam date. Appointment times and locations are based upon availability at the time of scheduling.
